The University of Manchester, a powerful new force in British Higher Education. Manchester has a long tradition of excellence in Higher Education. UMIST can trace its roots back to 1824 and the formation of the Manchester Mechanics' Institute, whilst The Victoria University of Manchester was founded as Owens College in 1851.
Renold Building (marked as No. 8 on the campus map)
The Renold Building was added to the old UMIST campus during its expansion in the early 1960s. It is a six-storey tower on a two-storey base, designed to house lecture theatres of varying size. Inside the Renold Building is an impressive entrance hall on two levels with a MURAL: Metamorphosis by Victor Pasmore, 1968, in the lower part.
